A registration exam is a requirement for most new EMR, PCP and ACP applicants for registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.

(The exception to this is those who are licensed in another province or have education or experience deemed equivalent by the Registrar or are applying to the Courtesy register.)

The Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) examinations are the only approved registration examinations for applicants applying to the College. Information on the COPR Examinations can be found here: https://copr.ca/examinations-emr-pcp-acp/information-and-application-process/

EMR Exams

The EMR registration exam for Alberta registration is now being offered by COPR. All registration for the next exam is also being coordinated by COPR. COPR’s application process page. Any COPR EMR exam application questions should be directed to: coordinator@copr.ca

PCP & ACP Exams

Registration to take a COPR-provided registration exam at the PCP or ACP level on the other hand is coordinated by the College. Candidates wishing to write the upcoming COPR examination must log into their profile on the member portal to access, complete and submit the intent to write form.

To be eligible for the examination at your designation, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Submit an intent to write COPR examination form to the College by the deadline
  2. Completion of your education program at least 16 days before the exam date
  3. Provide proof of completion of your education program to the College at least 16 days before the exam date

Fees are collected by COPR through the third-party examination provider; Yardstick Assessment Strategies (YAS). YAS will email candidates with payment details and timelines. If you have difficulty or questions regarding payment processes, contact the Yardstick Assessment Strategies Support Line at 1.866.793.4820.

An applicant is permitted up to three attempts at the approved registration examination. The applicant is expected to complete the first attempt within 12 months of graduating.

It can take up to 4 weeks from the date you write your exam to receive your marks. The College will make results available to all exam candidates as soon as possible and will inform candidates when the results are ready for viewing.

Candidates who wish to appeal their results should contact COPR through exam@copr.ca.

Testing Accommodations must be received by COPR at least 35 days before the exam date and can be accessed here.
