Welcome to the 2024/2025 registration year! We kicked off the new year with 8,491 members, which is roughly 200 more than last year. Thank you to everyone who completed their application on time. This was another successful renewal period with minimal problems/concerns arising.
Alinity continues to provide a smooth renewal process for all members, and we are encountering fewer problems each year. We also appreciate all the feedback we receive throughout the course of renewal as it helps us mitigate any future problems and find solutions to reduce hurdles for members. We are proud to say that the number of members reaching out with questions or concerns during this period is consistently trending down and we hope this continues, even though our communication lines are always open when needed.
This year, we introduced the option to opt-in for a plastic member card. We are very proud to see that over 5000 members selected this option. We know this has been a hope from members for a while and we are happy to have found a fiscally responsible way to deliver this at no additional cost once a year.
Looking ahead to this new year, I’m very excited to share that the College has officially launched a new Learning Management System (LMS) for all members. This has been an ongoing point of discussion at the Council table and we’re very pleased to have been able to deliver it this year. The LMS will be used to provide Continuing Competence opportunities and enhanced training courses wherever possible.
To launch the system, the Regulatory Knowledge exam which once lived in the member portal has been converted into a full course. This is available free to all members and can be taken each year for 12 CE credits. The course consists of seven parts covering the areas of regulation and a final exam.
The parts are:
- Health Professions in Alberta
- The Alberta College of Paramedics
- Legislative Documents
- Your Practice
- Continuing Competence
- Conduct & Complaints
- Final exam
The final exam consists of questions that have been covered throughout the course and requires an 80% to pass. A certificate of completion is emailed to you once you have successfully completed the course.
It is very exciting to see that some of you have already found your way into the LMS and completed the course. College staff are currently working hard on developing new courses and we will continue to share these as they become available. The main goal was to provide an avenue for online CC learning that can cater to the needs of our members at no additional cost.
If you have any questions, concerns or course suggestions, please reach out to us at lms@ABparamedics.com.
