The College determines what must be taught in each level of designation of paramedicine. Paramedicine education programs in Alberta must meet these standards and teach to the requirements set by the College.

Below are the approved education programs in Alberta. For graduates of programs outside of Alberta, please contact registration@ABparamedics.com if you are looking to become registered in Alberta.

Reporting an Education Quality Complaint

The Alberta College of Paramedics determines what must be taught at each level of designation of paramedicine in accordance with the 2011 National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP). Alberta paramedicine education programs must meet these standards and teach to the requirements outlined by the College to be an approved education provider. All education programs are required to undergo a rigorous program approval prior to offering the program. All approved education programs are also required to undergo routine program reviews by the College.

Students, educators, employers or preceptors concerned about the quality of an approved paramedicine education program in Alberta can file a complaint with the College.

Examples of concerns about program quality and delivery should relate to

  • Poor or inadequate instruction of competencies
  • Concerns regarding instructor qualifications to teach competencies
  • Repeated perceived skill deficits noted in a program’s graduates

As with all complaints, please first speak with the education provider to share your concern and hear their perspectives on the concern prior to completing this form.

Please note: the Alberta College of Paramedics cannot order compensation to the complainant.

The Alberta College of Paramedics will follow up on all signed complaints. The complaints process will be used to determine if deficiencies in education quality exist. In the event deficiencies exist, we will determine if the program has the capacity to improve and/or assist the program in improving their instruction of competencies.

In situations where the concerns are significant and/or repetitive in nature, the Registrar may change the program’s approval status to ‘Conditional’ and request the Paramedicine Education Program Review Committee to undertake an investigation of the overall curricular content offered by the program.

In extreme instances, the College may determine that the provider should no longer be approved to offer its paramedicine program.
