The College has been working on approving additional training to enable regulated members to remove practice conditions and to achieve endorsements on their practice permit. One area that has been of significant interest in years past has been training to authorize PCPs to administer the seasonal influenza vaccine.

Along with the newly released Standard of Practice 4.1.2 Administer a Vaccine, the College has also released a Practice Guideline on Vaccine Administration. These resources are meant to be used by all regulated members who administer vaccines.

What training is recognized to permit a PCP to administer a vaccine?

The College has approved the Alberta Health Services training. Below is how to complete the training.

For AHS EMS employees:

  1. Log onto MyLearningLink
  2. Successfully complete Vaccine Storage and Handling Modules 1-6.
  3. Successfully complete the Anaphylaxis Management module and exam.
  4. Provide the College with proof of completion to practice@ABparamedics.com.

For non-AHS employees:

  1. Set up an account on the AHS Primary Health Care Learning Portal here: Primary Health Care Learning Portal (myabsorb.ca)
  2. Successfully complete Vaccine Storage and Handling Modules 1-6.
  3. Successfully complete the Anaphylaxis Management module and exam.
  4. Provide the College with proof of completion to practice@ABparamedics.com.

Once the College has reviewed and accepted the certificates of completion, the PCP will have a vaccine-specific endorsement of recorded on their practice permit.
