On behalf of Council, the College is pleased to welcome Chris De Vries, ACP, and Joshua Brown, ACP, as our two new regulated Council members.
So much of what occurs on Council happens quietly behind the scenes, so we appreciate any opportunity to give members a glimpse at the real people at the table, working hard to progress change in this profession. Below are introductory bios for them both:
My name is Chris de Vries, and I am looking forward to my involvement with Council. I have worked for 25 years as a paramedic, working in a variety of services and roles, including as a front-line Advanced Care Paramedic on both ground EMS and air ambulance. In addition, I have worked in clinical education, management and project operations for various health services in Alberta and the Northwest Territories of Canada, as well as roles internationally.
Most recently I have been the manager of the Banff EMS and Emergency Departments, although I have recently started a position as Project Lead for the Emergency and Disaster Management team with Alberta Health Services. My passions lie in systems and process developments and improvement.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the mountains hiking, biking and skiing with my partner and our trusty four-legged adventure buddy, Ajax.
I look forward to engaging with fellow council members, the diverse paramedic community and the wider public to build and improve the profession in our province.
Chris de Vries, MPH, ACP, FP-C, CCP
My name is Joshua (Josh) Brown, and I am thrilled to join the Alberta College of Paramedics Council. I have been part of the EMS profession since 2008, working in a variety of areas including rural, interfacility transport and Edmonton Metro primarily. I became an Advanced Care Paramedic in 2016, and since then have held a variety of front-line, supervisory and other leadership roles across front-line and other operational areas.
I currently work with Associated Ambulance in Operations Support & Logistics, where I focus on strengthening systems, improving supply chain processes and supporting frontline staff. These experiences have reinforced my belief that strong operational systems and thoughtful leadership directly contribute to better care for patients and safer, more sustainable work for paramedics.
Recently, I completed an MBA program, which deepened my interest in the application of finance, strategy and governance. I also currently serve on another board of directors outside of EMS as well.
On a more personal level, I spend a lot of time with my wife Michelle and our two kids, Oliver & Hannah, keeping life very busy! We spend as much time as we can outdoors foraging, fishing, camping and hunting. Otherwise, I can usually be found tinkering in my garage on just about anything I can find.
I look forward to working with Council and engaging with our members as we continue building a strong future for the profession.
Joshua Brown, MBA, ACP
