Summer is officially here—although that may be hard to believe with the spring showers still falling! I’m sure we’re all looking forward to the sunny weather coming our way soon, and I hope you’ll all get the chance to enjoy it with friends and family.

This year’s AMM went very well. If you hadn’t already attended live, you still have until September 30, 2025, to register and watch the recording here. Attending the virtual AMM is a great way to get important updates on College operations and to claim an easy, free 6 CE credits. This year, we had the most participants ever join us in Pigeonhole, where we collected questions to answer live. All questions that we didn’t have time to answer during the livestream were answered in the most recent Pulse AMM recap article.

I recognize a lot of the questions were related to our discussion on education reform. We are continuing to work with our partners in education, government and other paramedic regulators across the country to ensure the successful launch of this curriculum framework. Please be assured that once this is in place, there will be opportunities for existing registrants to bridge into the program, and that your current practice will not be disrupted with any mandatory upgrading. The new curriculum will better prepare the next generation of paramedic practitioners with the hard skills, critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning and mental health resiliency they need to thrive in this profession, while inviting current practitioners to seek out advancements in their education if desired.

I also want to provide a reminder that renewal opens in just one month. The easiest way to get your renewal over quickly and smoothly is to complete it early. I also encourage you all to complete all your continuing competence requirements with plenty of time to spare. The College frequently posts CE opportunities, with the most recent being a list of courses worth 30+ CE credits. If you need a big boost to your credits, I encourage you all to take a look.

The College’s Learning Management System (LMS) also has two online courses available for free for all members, which are worth a respective 6 and 12 CE credits for your Learning Plan. If you do use our LMS, please don’t hesitate to call or email in with any comments on your experience. Your feedback is very appreciated as we continue to improve the system and develop future courses. Our next course is already underway and will be ready before the next renewal cycle.

I would like to close by speaking a bit about Paramedic Service week. Hopefully, most of you are aware that the third week in May is a time to recognize the essential role paramedics play in our communities and to highlight important developments in paramedicine. During this week, there were a number of great events that took place; Canadian Paramedic Research Day once again hosted an impressive and informative lineup of speakers; The EMS Foundation held its second annual ceremony at the Fallen Paramedics Memorial; Our College and many other paramedic regulators across the country held their respective annual meetings. Hopefully you had a chance to take in some of these events, but, if not, think about keeping your calendar free next year and consider attending. It’s an excellent opportunity to share positive experiences and learn more about our great profession.

Take care and stay safe,

Tim A. Ford
